Chile has a long viticultural history dating to the 16th century when the Spanish conquistadores brought Vitis vinifera vines with them as they colonized South America. In the mid-18th century, French wine varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were introduced but decades of neglect followed. A renaissance began in the mid 1980’s and wine exports grew quickly as wine quality increased. Today the wine industry in Chile is dynamic and flourishing, producing some of the world's best value buys, as well as many ultra premium wines that could quality-wise compete with those made anywhere in the world.
Chile is also a beautiful country and Santiago, a sophisticated capital with both European and South American influences. Join us as we sample the history, culture and geographic diversity of Chile…with plenty of time to sip its most delicious export, vino.
